C27J Projects
The C-27J Team will produce and missionize the C-27J Spartan military transport aircraft for the United States government and other international customers. The C-27J Spartan is a military airlifter specifically designed for cargo and troops, paratroop and material air drop, medical evacuation and day/night all-weather operations.
Affording enhanced tactical flexibility and an unmatched level of interoperability with heavier airlift and rotor-wing assets, the C-27J Spartan is engineered to keep pace with changes encountered in today's diverse and dispersed battlefields, providing commanders with comprehensive in-theater tactical airlift capability. The aircraft is also equipped with modern and proven self-protection systems to ensure survivability.
Featuring unsurpassed short take-off and landing performance on unimproved airfields, the C-27J is the perfect platform to support Future Force Brigade Combat Team (BCT) operations in high-threat environments in remote, austere locations. The C-27J has a higher cruising altitude and longer range than the C-23 Sherpa, the aircraft currently used by the Army National Guard (ARNG). With the dispersed forces in today's non-contiguous battlespace, these performance capabilities (range, payload, short take off and landing - STOL) are essential in order to meet the needs of our forward maneuvering units.
The C-27J is based on the proven and reliable C-27A airframe also sold to the USAF as the Spartan. Since it was originally designed as a true rugged military airlifter, the C-27J is highly interoperable with heavier models such as the C-130s, and incorporates state-of-the-art technologies throughout its propulsion system, avionic system, cockpit layout and data presentation . The C-27J is currently under production for the Italian Air Force (12 units) and the Hellenic Air Force (12 units), and the Bulgarian Air Force (5 Units). The aircraft is also competing in Canada for its Fixed Wing Search and Rescue replacement as well as around the world.
