C-27J Program Updates (June 2011)
Mansfield, Ohio received the first 4 C-27J’s for the Air National Guard. The 179th Airlift Wing will be the first unit to deploy with the C-27J in summer of 2011. These National Guardsmen and women have been undergoing training on the new aircraft and are ready to take the C-27J into theater.
Bed down of the remaining C-27Js is underway at Martin State, Maryland and will follow on at Meridian, Mississippi, Battle Creek, Michigan, Fargo North Dakota, Bradley, Connecticut, and Great Falls, Montana in sequence. Plans call for two additional bed down bases to be identified.
Training is currently conducted at Warner Robins, Georgia. In 2011, the U.S. Air Force announced Meridian, Mississippi as the permanent home for C-27J training with two additional aircraft added to their fleet.
