Interoperability

The C-27J features the unique capability to vary cargo floor height and continuously adjust altitude ensuring easy loading and unloading of large volume high density payloads without ground support equipment and easy drive in/out of vehicles allowing their immediate operability.

TRANS-LOADING

Unlike other twin engine cargo aircraft in this class, the C-27J boasts interoperability with both CH/MH-47s and larger, intratheatre lift aircraft such as the C-130s.  This interoperability means the C-27J can play an effective and flexible role in supporting the soldiers the last tactical mile.  Whether that is flying pre-configured pallets for the Chinooks from one fire base to another, or taking larger, critical loads directly off C-130s directly to the warfighter, the C-27J has the capability to get the job done.

As a result of its large cabin height and cross section, the C-27J is the only aircraft in its class that can load up to two up-armored HMMWVS.  While other aircraft have longer fueslages, their reduced height and cross section do not allow them to load up-armored HMMWVS, one of the most prevelent vehicles supporting troops on the front line.

COMMONALITY AND COST SAVINGS

The C-27J was developed to be interoperable with the existing fleet of C-130s.  This includes sharing the same propulsion system and a significant percentage of the avionics.  This commonality will reduce cost and spares requirements.  This commonality will also reduce the time required to train maintenance personnel making the C-27J a cost effective and low risk solution.
